Eastman 2-D 8x10 View Camera Reconstruction
In very rough condition when a local photographer brought this historical
piece into our shop, his hopes were for us to return a working instrument.
The camera, itself a work of art equal to the art it might create, I
jumped at the challenge. At the time, I had no machine tools with which
to fabricate a new elevation gear. I carefully braised and hand filed
the missing teeth. The bellows were in good condition but misaligned.
The Mahogany body of the camera was intact but loose and dilapidated,
and of course, the brass fittings were equally abused. He later told
me that he was pleased with its performance and that it has served him
very well.
